About the Makin' Bacon Breakfast Club
When Makin'Bacon was founded in 1975, it was to address one problem: Insularity. As we were growing and progressing in our careers, old friendships fell by the wayside and new friendships tended to be confined to our respective business fields. So eight people, of the original eleven invited, gathered to discuss an idea for a breakfast club with three intentions:
- First, to maintain old friendships and initiate new social and business contacts;
- Second, to share problems and hear solutions from a perspective different from those not in our own industry, to contrast forecasts and scenarios, to broaden perspectives and avoid insularity, to be aware of changes in other business, social, and legislative issues that may impact on our own responsibilities;
- Third, to listen to entertaining and informative speakers to whom we might not otherwise have access.
Today, Makin'Bacon boasts a membership of some 70 individuals, representing a broad spectrum of backgrounds, businesses and interests. The pillar of the Club is the impressive list of high caliber speakers that join us once a month to expose the Club's membership to timely or unique perspectives on business or public issues. The format is informal, and speakers and members alike value the additional opportunity for a brief exchange of questions and answers.
